Seussical Tree!

So my day started out like this:

Yep, I shoved a partially decorated tree in the back of my car to take up to my daughter's classroom.  Her teacher beautifully decorated the room with a Dr. Seuss theme, so I just carried that on to the class Christmas tree.  If you follow my FB page or follow me on Twitter, you saw this pic yesterday:

I picked these Dr. Seuss dry erase boards up at Target several months ago in the dollar section.  So, this Christmas tree has been in the works for quite a while!  Then I just took a black sharpee and wrote "Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas is..."  The idea was that each child in the class would write down one thing they wanted for Christmas, and then sign it.  I punched holes in the boards using my Crop-A-Dile II Big Bite and secured them on the tree using white pipe cleaners.  I love the personal touch this gives the tree.  The kids really feel a sense of ownership; it's THEIR tree.  So now take a look:

This was SO MUCH FUN to decorate!  The white tree is one I bought from Wal-Mart last year.  I picked up the Dr. Seuss ribbon at Wal-Mart and Jo-Ann's.  The white lights were from Hobby Lobby, as well as the red and aqua ribbon and some of the floral picks (more on that in a minute).  The red and aqua deco mesh is from The Market at Quail Springs in OKC.  

The curly, red picks are from Decorator's Warehouse in Dallas. And, my daughter's teacher let me borrow the "Cat in the Hat" hat from her own personal collection which I then used as the tree topper.

The sentences strips (I think) came from Mardel's.  I just hand wrote some lines from three different Dr. Seuss books on the sentence strips to make a kind of interactive garland.

I picked up the cute Grinch at Barnes and Noble.  I think I would LOVE to do a whole Grinch tree!  Wouldn't that be fun???

So, back to the Hobby Lobby floral picks.  You may have seen these little glittery ball picks in the stores.  I have been collecting them for several months now.  The aqua ones were a bit harder to find.  I loved the look of these, but I wanted more impact.  So, I made an adjustment to them using floral stakes and white floral tape.

First, I gathered a red, aqua, and silver glittery ball pick along with a floral stake in my hand.

Then, I began wrapping white floral tape around them all.  Why white tape?  Because my tree is white.

I continued with the tape all the way down the stake.

Then ta-da!  I made a longer, more impactful floral pick in minutes.

It really brought me joy to see the kids get so excited about their Seussical Tree.  Children are great about giving instant feedback and appreciation.  It makes it all worthwhile.
