Happy Independence Day!
I threw this door up last night, literally. I have been in a bit of a creative slump recently and credit my husband with this door. These were his ideas as I was lamenting about my lack of inspiration last Sunday on our way to church. So thanks Hubby!
This is a simple, but I think elegant, door. I wanted to try to achieve a Revolutionary time period feel. So in the place of deco mesh, I used aged American flag panels that I've had for literally years. Then I made the scrolls using a template I cut out of a file folder using the digital Cricut Cartridge "Banners". Check it out here. (Hey, it's on sale today, July 4th!) Then, I traced around the template on foam I purchased from Home Depot. I used an xacto knife to cut them out and then applied three coats of cream colored paint (to make them look like old parchment). After they dried, I cut patriotic sayings out of vinyl using the Cricut Cartridge "Blackletter". Click here to view that cartriddge. I applied the sayings, drew the curls at the end of the scrolls with a thick sharpee, and finally distressed the edges with a black ink pad. I hot glued floral wire to the back and wired them into the garland.
The wreaths are made by wrapping styrofoam forms with yarn and then hot gluing scrolls and American flags on them. Pretty simple.
PLEASE NOTE: AFTER HEARING SOME COMPLAINTS ABOUT MY DOORSCAPE ONLINE I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A CLARIFICATION. I USED FABRIC PANELS BOUGHT AT A HOME DECOR STORE. THESE ARE NOT OFFICIAL US FLAGS. I HAVE THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR OUR COUNTRY AND OUR FLAG AND AM MORTIFIED THAT PEOPLE THINK I WAS SHOWING DISRESPECT TO OUR FLAG. THAT WAS NEVER EVER MY INTENT. I APOLOGIZE IF I OFFENDED ANYONE. PLEASE SEE THE PICS BELOW OF THE FABRIC PANELS I USED. AS YOU CAN SEE, THEY ARE NOT OFFICIAL US FLAGS.
Take a look at the video:
Now here are some pics:
I hope you have a wonderful July 4th with family and friends!
Take time to "Prettify Your Life"!
Angela, you are doing a great job! I've only been on your site a few times but I noticed your comment about the american flag and the negative responses you received... I'm from a military family and I am a very patriotic person and I don't see anything wrong with the fabric used. Remember, "YOU CAN PLEASE SOME OF THE PEOPLE SOMETIMES BUT YOU CANT PLEASE ALL THE PEOPLE ALL THE TIME". A true American doesn't judge a flag, they're just proud that it's hung. (only the tattered flags are disgraceful). Keep up the good work. :)
